So, took a week off from blogging, we had some very big things happen. The possible move to Colorado, turned into a "for sure" move to Scottsdale Arizona. The husband is already there, rolled into town yesterday. I'll update more in the next few days, and will be back to blogging as usual, mixed with much packing and running around!

A little bit of gray, a little bit of red, and a little linen...
Just a super basic smock for the Stella girl...and I'm still on the lookout for the perfect buttons for the shoulders. As usual, I'm making one for the etsy shop too!
On another note, we *may* have a near cross country move for our family soon! From Michigan, to Fort Collins, Colorado. Aside from what I've read online, and seen on FLICKr, I know next to nothing about Fort Collins. If you have any tidbits about the area, I'd love to hear them!

Tiny tees for a good cause...
I am posting this in the slight chance that someone out there does not read Amanda Soule's blog. Her first project for Mama to Mama is the Caps to Cap-Haitien project. She has simple instructions to sew basic jersey knot caps for newborns in Haiti. Now, as you may notice, my photo does not include caps. I had some jersey kimono tops left from a NIN project, and couldn't find a use for the extras, as they were a bit too large for micro-preemies. Amanda said they would be put to good use in Haiti, so I whipped up a few more, and ran to Goodwill to load up in jersey tees to make some caps. Infant mortality is a subject close to my heart, having lost my own baby girl at 6 months of age. Take a few moments to peak at her project...

my new notions bucket...
Well, it's not antique, but it is a totally adorable repro bucket that I found downtown. Just the right size to dump all of my thread and notions into. It sure beats the old glass loaf pan I was using. I love looking into the bucket, at all the bright cheery colors. Makes me feel like I am craftier than in actuality.
tahki yarn and the scarf that never ends...
More yummy yarn. The Tahki navy and orange is going to be a scarf for Caleb, my oldest. A special request two years in a row now. Since I can finally knit, and am about to learn to purl, I figured this was the year. He wants the scarf to have big chunky stripes and be done up in Bears colors, al a Mike Ditka. :) The purple is the.same.scarf.from.before. I am on my thrid ball of yearn, with no end in sight! I'm fairly tall at 5'9", so a long scarf is quite a project for me. Hoping I finish it soon...

starting simple..
I've been away from my machine for awhile, so now that I'm back to stitching again, I need to start sloooooow. Bibs, of course! Bibs are the fabric equivalent to the back to basics scarf of the yarn world. I have a close friend expecting a little one in mid March, so we whipped up several for her, but it was ever so much fun stitching little baby things, that I decided to rifle through my stash and make a few more for the etsy shop. Almost have them ready to go up!
The whirlwind of stitching almost came a 11 day halt, after my 6 yearold son Max lost the needle clamp screw to my Babylock. We searched the area around the machine high and low, drove to 4 different sewing shops in 3 DIFFERENT cities, only to be told we'll need to wait 9-11 days for them to order a non-standard part. Since when are needle clamp screws non-standard? Well, the little guy redeemed himself on the 3rd day, when he found the tiny black screw nestled in the carpet. Phew, major crisis averted!

how the boys are spending winter...
My dad taught the 3 older boys how to play chess, and they spend hour upon hour trying to outsmart eachother at the chess table. The boys are 11, 7, and 6, and said they would sooner play chess than do just about anything. The look of intense concentration on their faces, mixed with the sly little grins as they plan their next move is priceless. It's a nice mellow way to wrap up a yucky week. A nasty stomach bug is tearing through our town, to the point that even the local college was shut down. I'm very happy to spend the weekend relaxing, and plotting the next move...

Decisions, decisions.....I'd have to say Gingerbread. Coconut was actually my first pick, but I'd rather have something that fits the season better.
